Job description

As a GP in a prison setting, youll play a vital role in improving health outcomes for individuals who may have complex health and social care needs. Your work will help reduce health inequalities and ensure continuity of care in a challenging but rewarding environment.,

  • Provide full GP services including consultations, clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and referrals.
  • Conduct cervical screening (smear tests) in accordance with NHS guidelines and ensure appropriate follow-up and referral where necessary.
  • Manage chronic diseases, acute presentations, and mental health conditions.
  • Contribute to the management of substance misuse and support detox pathways.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing staff, mental health professionals, pharmacists, and external healthcare providers.
  • Participate in clinical audits, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical records using the prisons electronic health record system.
  • Take part in clinical governance activities and support continuous quality improvement.
