Job summary

Swansea University is seeking a General Practitioner to join our training practice in the Seven Sisters, Dulais Valley Primary Care Centre. The post is six sessions per week, face-to-face with patients and telephone consultations, within a supportive rural team.

You will work with four GPs, a pharmacist, two practice nurses and two Health Care Support Workers, joining a team that trains GP trainees and Swansea University GEM students with potential to expand teaching and specialist interests

Qualifications

• MBBCH or equivalent recognised medical degree.
• MRCGP qualification or equivalent GP credential.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient caseloads and address a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting.
• Engage in teaching and supervision opportunities for GP trainees and Swansea University GEM students.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality rural general practice care.

Our Training Practice is looking for a six-session a week GP, to join our team. Set in the Community of Seven Sisters, Dulais Valley Primary Care Centre would welcome a GP who would like to develop their own interests and skills within this rural locality.

You will be joining our four existing GPs, pharmacist, two practice nurses and two Health Care Support Workers serving approximately 6000 patients which includes a very low percentage home visit requirement. Our 3 GP partners are experienced trainers; they would encourage you to engage in the in the teaching opportunities to continue to develop your own learning and skill set. We currently train GP trainees and Swansea University GEM students. In future we have ambitions to increase our training scope to include pharmacy students/pre-registration. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary, very high QOF achieving team sharing clinical knowledge and experience in a rural GP Practice. The practice supports GP trainees and Swansea University GEM students. Manage patient caseloads and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting and undertake additional professional roles and responsibilities as agreed at appointment. Ensure awareness, compliance and undertaking of all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health, and safety. The successful applicant should also effectively communicate and respect the privacy, dignity, needs and beliefs of patients, carers, and colleagues, and behave in a welcoming manner that is nonjudgmental to the individual, respecting their circumstances, feelings priorities and rights.

We are fortunate to have, Health Visitor Services, District Nurses and various health board and Cluster services being held at our practice, services include; retinal screening, physiotherapy, social prescribing, heart failure clinic, breast screening and Aneurysm screening. We currently offer Implant and coil fitting and we are in the process of setting up joint injection Clinics, scheduled to commence in the Autumn. We are open to exploring opportunities to expand our additional services for future growth of the Practice. Ideally, we would require you to work, Monday Wednesday but there is some flexibility. This post would attract 6 weeks annual leave and a week of study leave per annum. All bank holidays are pro-rata. Partnership is something that we would consider with the right candidate. We have a lovely purpose-built building with very spacious consultation rooms, comfortable relaxation areas and staff facilities. We have ample staff and patient parking, we are situated just a twenty-minute commute from junction 43 of the M4 or the A465 at Glynneath, which makes it easily accessible. Currently the computer systems we utilise are Ask my GP, EMIS and Docman.
