Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the employment of a general practice admin assistant to join our established team. West Wakefield is a Primary Care Network (PCN) with a patient population of circa 68,000 across 5 practices.

Practices include:

  • Chapelthorpe Medical Centre
  • Middlestown Medical Centre
  • Orchard Croft Medical Centre
  • The Lupset Health Centre

We are looking to expand our GPA Admin team to work alongside our practices and other PCN staff. Our team currently includes Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Social Prescribers, Health and Wellbeing Coaches, Care Coordinators, Occupational Therapists, Mental Health Nurses, General Practice Assistants (clinical), General Practitioners, and First Contact Practitioners.

Main duties of the job

The GPA Admin Team is responsible for coding clinical records from letters and communications from external providers, as well as inputting clinical data. We welcome applications from both experienced clinical coders and those willing to learn. Training will be provided.

The team plans to develop its service offerings, which may include:

  • Scanning and matching letters to patient records
  • Sorting clinical post and prioritising actions for GPs and PCN teams
  • Identifying clinical actions and directing to appropriate teams
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-ups
  • Managing caseloads and incoming referrals
  • Identifying and acting on safeguarding issues
  • Clinical reporting and searches
  • Summarising medical records
  • Providing administrative support to the PCN and practices

This list is not exhaustive and will evolve with service development. The role requires successful applicants to complete an enhanced DBS check.

This role is subject to a DBS check as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions Order).

Salary ranges from £24,447 to £26,870 per year, pro-rata for part-time, depending on skills and experience.
