Role Description This full-time, on-site General or Musculoskeletal Sonographer role is based in Walsall and involves providing high-quality ultrasound examinations for a range of general and musculoskeletal conditions. The sonographer will perform and interpret diagnostic scans, produce clear and accurate reports, and liaise with referring clinicians to support timely and appropriate patient care. Daily tasks include patient preparation, scanning using appropriate protocols, maintaining and calibrating ultrasound equipment, and adhering to clinical governance and infection control standards. The role also includes participation in audit, quality assurance, and ongoing professional development activities to ensure consistent, evidence-based practice. The sonographer will contribute to a collaborative working environment, supporting colleagues and promoting a patient-centered approach.

Qualifications

  • Strong clinical ultrasound skills in general and musculoskeletal imaging, with proven ability to perform and interpret a wide range of examinations accurately.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in medical ultrasound (e.g., PGDip or equivalent) and registration with an appropriate professional body (e.g., HCPC or equivalent where applicable).
  • Experience working within hospital or clinical settings, preferably NHS or similar, with familiarity in local protocols, referral pathways, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Commitment to quality assurance, including participation in audit, adherence to clinical governance, and consistent application of evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, clinicians, and wider healthcare teams, with the ability to explain procedures clearly and sensitively.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, capable of managing a busy caseload while maintaining high standards of patient care and documentation.
  • Competence in using ultrasound systems and related IT, including reporting software and electronic health records, with attention to data accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated reliability, professional integrity, and flexibility, including willingness to adapt to service needs and participate in ongoing training and development.
