Job summary

ENVA in Grantham seeks a General Operative to assist in the recycling and processing of Small Domestic Appliances and fridges. You will handle, sort, dismantle and prepare electronic waste for recycling, while adhering to safety and environmental rules.

The role supports sustainability efforts by promoting efficient waste management and compliant practices within a busy facility. This position involves manual handling and team collaboration to meet daily targets.

Responsibilities

• Operate hand tools and machinery for disassembly following safety protocols.
• Sort materials such as televisions, computers, mobiles, fridges to correct recycling streams.
• Safely dismantle equipment removing cables, boards, batteries and refrigerants for recycling.
• Operate shredding, baling and processing machinery for efficient output.
• Inspect incoming SDA materials and fridges for compliance with standards.
• Follow health, safety and environmental regulations and report hazards.
• Collaborate with team and supervisors to meet daily production targets.
• Maintain a clean and organised workspace per company policies.

Job description

As a General Operative at ENVA, based in Grantham, you will play a key role in the recycling and processing of Small Domestic Appliances and fridges. You will be responsible for handling, sorting, dismantling, and preparing electronic waste and refrigeration units for further recycling or disposal, adhering to safety and environmental regulations. This position contributes to ENVA's sustainability efforts by promoting efficient waste management and recycling practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Use of Tools & Equipment – Operate hand tools and machinery for disassembly while adhering to safety protocols.
• Sorting and Handling: Sorting materials such as televisions, computers, mobile phones, fridges, and other electronic devices to ensure they are directed to the correct recycling streams.
• Dismantling and Processing: Safely dismantle electronic equipment, including fridges, removing components like cables, circuit boards, batteries, and refrigerants for proper recycling.
• Machine Operation: Operate shredding, baling, and other processing machinery, ensuring proper and efficient operation to maximise recycling output.
• Quality Control: Inspect and assess incoming SDA materials and fridges to ensure compliance with recycling standards and company requirements.
• Safety and Compliance: Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations, particularly those relating to the handling of refrigeration units. Report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions immediately.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members and supervisors to meet daily production targets, supporting overall operational efficiency.
• Housekeeping & Compliance – Maintain a clean and organised workspace, following company policies, risk assessments, and safe operating procedures.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Dismantling Efficiency – Number of e-cigarettes dismantled per shift.
• Recycling Rate – Percentage of recovered materials suitable for reuse.
• Safety Compliance – Zero incidents related to hazardous waste handling.
• Process Accuracy – Minimal contamination in sorted material streams.
• Housekeeping & Organisation – Work area maintained to required standards.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Previous experience in a recycling or waste management environment
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to recycling.
• Mechanical aptitude or experience in dismantling electronic equipment is advantageous.
• Ability to operate machinery or willingness to be trained.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to following safety protocols.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding role, including lifting and moving equipment.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
