Job summary

GEL Engineering Ltd in Twickenham is seeking a General Operative to support mechanical works at wastewater sites across the UK. You will work with engineers and site teams, assist with installations, maintenance and site duties, and help keep projects on track.

We value practical hands-on capability, a positive attitude and a commitment to safety. CSCS and a driving licence are preferred but not essential; right to work in the UK is required, with a friendly, supportive culture and clear career

Role Outline:

As a General Operative, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of mechanical projects across wastewater treatment sites. Working alongside experienced engineers and site teams, you will assist with a wide range of site activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work, takes pride in delivering quality and is looking to build a long-term career within a growing industry.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with mechanical works wastewater treatment sites.
• Carry out general labouring and site support duties.
• Load, unload and move materials, tools and equipment safely.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Assist skilled tradespeople with installations, maintenance and repairs.
• Follow site health, safety and environmental procedures at all times.
• Use hand and power tools safely and responsibly.
• Report any safety concerns, defects or incidents promptly.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors and clients.
• Travel to sites across the UK as required.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in a construction, utilities, engineering or industrial environment is desirable but not essential.
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work safely and follow instructions.
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• CSCS Card (preferred but not essential).
• Full UK Driving Licence (preferred).
• Right to Work in the UK on a permanent basis.
