Job summary

Holcim UK at Torr Works in Somerset seeks a hands-on operator to run heavy mobile plant and support multiple production areas, including crushing, washing, and control rooms. You will perform pre-start checks, identify defects, and keep your equipment and workspace safe and tidy.

The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and the ability to adapt to rotating shifts, with on-site training provided and opportunities for progression within the Holcim group.

Qualifications

• Willingness to learn and be trained on site
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Solid focus on safety and attention to detail
• Flexibility to work rotating day shifts (05:00–13:30) and afternoon shifts (13:30–23:00), plus select Saturdays
• Experience in a quarry or heavy industry is helpful but not required

Job description

What You'll Be Doing

• Operating heavy mobile plant safely and efficiently (Loading Shovels, ADTs, and more).
• Supporting production across the site, including key areas like the crusher, wash plant, and control room.
• Conducting pre-start checks, identifying defects, and ensuring your kit and workspace are clean, tidy, and safe.
• Communicating closely with supervisors and teammates to keep operations running smoothly.
• Following all site safety and environmental procedures - safety always comes first.

What You'll Bring

• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Focus on safety and attention to detail.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts (day and afternoon patterns) Monday to Friday (05.00 - 13.30 & 13.30 - 23.00), every other Saturday 6.00 am - 11.00 am.
• Experience in a quarry or similar heavy industry is helpful - but not essential.
