A local automotive repair shop near Highbridge is seeking a General Mechanic specializing in gearbox fitting. This full-time position offers a salary range of £38K to £45K, dependent on experience. You will be responsible for gearbox and drive train removal, diagnostics, and ensuring workshop organization. The ideal candidate has 3+ years as a vehicle mechanic, strong mechanical knowledge, and a valid UK driving licence. Benefits include pension and holiday time.

General Mechanic

Due to successful growth year after year, my client is looking for a General Mechanic - specifically to do Gearbox Fitting

  • Location: Near Highbridge
  • Salary: 38K to 45k DOE
  • Job Type: Full-Time, permanent
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.00am - 5.00pm
  • Company pension

  • No weekend work unless overtime at time and a half

Mechanic/ Gearbox Fitter / Technician Responsibilities:

  • Removing and refitting transmissions and drive train systems including clutches and dual mass flywheels
  • Performing diagnostic checks and road tests
  • Preparing the workshop each morning and securing vehicles at close
  • Maintaining a clean and organised work space
  • Liaising with the office and workshop team
  • Accurately following job sheets and instructions

Mechanic/ Gearbox Fitter / Technician Criteria:

  • Previous experience of working as a Drive Train Fitter - preferred but not essential
  • Experience as a Semi-Skilled Vehicle Mechanic - Minimum 3 years essential with IMI level 3 in hybrid / electrical vehicle repair preferred
  • Strong mechanical knowledge
  • Team player with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Able to work independently and safely with minimal supervision
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Reliable and punctual with strong attention to detail
  • Must own a set of tools
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and interpret fault codes (especially for automatic systems)
  • Excellent attention to detail and safety
  • Physically able to handle heavy vehicle components
  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential
