Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12-month secondment to lead a review and design of the future shape of key corporate services at HDFT. The Medical Directorate, led by our Executive Medical Director, Dr Jacqueline Andrews, oversees various corporate functions including Medical and Dental Standards, Appraisal & Revalidation, Clinical Strategy, Clinical Standards & Outcomes, Patient Consent, Medicines Management, Research & Innovation, and Digital Services.

Due to increasing demands, both internal and external, we are reviewing our Research and Innovation functions alongside Clinical Effectiveness to ensure alignment with our Trust and Clinical Services Strategies. This role will oversee a comprehensive review of R&I and Clinical Effectiveness, including an options appraisal for the future management model of the Medical Directorate.

While a background in research, innovation, or clinical effectiveness management is desirable, we welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds who can demonstrate transferable and highly developed management and interpersonal skills.

The General Manager (Medical Directorate) Will:
  1. Lead the review of our Research and Innovation function, analyzing current structures and defining future models to ensure departmental potential is maximized.
  2. Lead the review of our Clinical Outcomes (Clinical Effectiveness) function, analyzing current provision and structures for future readiness.
  3. Provide high-quality project management, advice, and support to assist the Executive Medical Director and the Associate Director of Quality and Corporate Affairs.
  4. Monitor national policy developments, assess their implications, and contribute to horizon scanning.
  5. Line manage the Research and Innovation Manager and the Clinical Outcomes Manager to support respective functions.
  6. Ensure efficient administrative systems are in place to support the work of the Executive Medical Director.
