Compass Associates are proud to be working in partnership with a leading national operator within the health and fitness sector. We’re supporting the search for a commercially minded and people-driven General Manager to lead one of their established clubs in Wellingborough.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a business undergoing positive cultural change, with strong leadership, national growth plans, and a clear commitment to internal development. This role would suit an experienced General Manager or ambitious Assistant Manager ready to step into full operational responsibility.

The Role

As General Manager, you will lead and motivate a multi-functional team to deliver exceptional service, operational excellence, and commercial performance. With full P&L accountability, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club – spanning membership growth, team development, compliance and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full operational responsibility for the club’s performance, member satisfaction and financial success
  • Lead and manage the club’s departmental heads including fitness, member care and café-bar
  • Drive new member sales, renewals and retention through a strong commercial and service focus
  • Budgetary oversight including P&L management, forecasting and financial reporting
  • Staff development, HR, recruitment, and employee engagement
  • Ensure Health & Safety compliance and uphold operational standards across the site
  • Work closely with the Regional Manager on business strategy, staffing, and performance reviews
  • Prepare and present SWOT analysis and action plans to support continuous improvement
  • Monitor KPIs via a National Balanced Scorecard framework

Person Specification:

  • Experience in a leadership role within leisure, hospitality or a related customer-focused industry
  • Proven team leadership and staff development experience
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to interpret and act on financial data
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Passion for health, fitness and wellbeing – with a customer-first mindset
  • Comfortable working flexibly including early mornings, evenings, and 1 in 4 weekend rota
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety and compliance standards
  • A background in nightclubs, bars, or gyms would be considered

Salary & Benefits:

  • £42,000 basic salary (depending on experience)
  • Up to £10,000 bonus per annum (paid quarterly based on performance)
