Job summary

Leisure People is seeking an ambitious General Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of an 18-hole pay and play golf course in Sutton Coldfield, tied to a 860-member gym and a busy driving range. The role carries full operational and commercial accountability for the site.

The ideal candidate will come from leisure or hospitality with proven leadership, sales, and operations experience, and with an interest in golf.

Qualifications

• Experience leading leisure or hospitality operations.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Experience in managing food & beverage operations is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop a clear commercial strategy while maintaining quality of member and visitor experience.
• Focus on margin retention, cost control and operational efficiency within F&B.
• Increase golf course utilisation through Golf Days, societies, corporate bookings and external events.
• Drive membership retention and growth while delivering an outstanding experience across all areas.
• Improve customer experience metrics such as NPS and employee engagement scores.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of 3 heads of department and ~20 staff.
• Prioritise health & safety, compliance, and customer standards.
• Build strong relationships with local businesses, corporates, societies and event organisers.
• Oversee a second smaller operation within the area.

Job description

General Manager Golf Course Sutton Coldfield to 42K

We are looking for an ambitious, commercially minded and people-focused General Manager to lead the day-to-day operation and continued development of a well-established 18 hole pay and play golf course in Sutton Coldfield with a 860-member gym and driving range generating a combined turnover of £1.2m. There is a significant event, functions .weddings and wakes business that boosts the clubhouse F and B spend. This is a hands-on leadership role with full operational and commercial accountability for the site.

The role is ideally suited to a centre or general manager from the leisure or hospitality industries with a well-rounded skillset across leadership, sales, operations and managing a food and beverage offer. An interest in golf would be beneficial.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop a clear commercial strategy while maintaining the quality of the member and visitor experience.
• Focus on margin retention, cost control and operational efficiency within the F and B operation.
• Increase golf course utilisation through more Golf Days, societies, corporate bookings and external events.
• Drive membership retention and growth while delivering an outstanding experience all areas
• Improve both the NPS and employee engagement scores.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of 3 heads of department and approximately 20 colleagues
• Have a clear focus on health & safety, compliance, and customer standards.
• Build strong relationships with local businesses, corporates, societies and event organisers.
• Oversee a 2nd smaller operation within the area.

You will be responsible for your own rota and would typically be expected to work a minimum of I duty management shift per week and a couple of weekend days per month.
