Position: General Maintenance and Fleet Tech

Location: Portland Red Cross Blood Center, Portland, ME

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm (flexible, 40 hours). On-call required. Valid driver’s license essential.

Benefits: $1,500 sign-on bonus; up to $8,000 annual on-call pay.

Main facility size: 16,000 sq ft. Fleet: 26 vehicles across 3 facilities.

What You Need to Know

Under supervision, perform repairs and maintenance on facilities, machinery, and equipment, including trades like carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and machinery repair. Conduct inspections, troubleshoot, and support volunteers.

Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and repair facilities and properties, including patching, flooring, painting, and minor electrical/plumbing issues.
• Install and service mechanical equipment like boilers, chillers, and pumps.
• Move and store furniture and equipment as needed.
• Estimate project costs, requisition supplies.
• Maintain outdoor areas, including gardening, snow removal, and applying de-icing chemicals.
• Drive vehicles to various locations.
• Adhere to safety procedures.
• Manage 24 fleet vehicles across facilities.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years related experience in trades such as painting, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; truck/bus driving experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills may be required.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Physical Requirements

Regular use of hands, lifting objects up to 50 lbs unassisted, working with tools and chemicals, climbing ladders, and other physical activities.
