Purpose of Role: The General Ledger Manager is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s general ledger and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records. This role leads the team managing journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes. The GL Manager provides critical support for financial reporting, audit compliance, and decision-making by maintaining an efficient and well-controlled accounting framework. This role also plays a key part in driving process improvements and aligning financial operations with business objectives
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and build a General Ledger team managing Spanish (S.A./S.L.) and Italian (S.r.l./S.p.A.) operating entities, ensuring strict adherence to group financial calendars and statutory reporting deadlines.
- General Ledger Oversight: Direct the accuracy and integrity of regional GL accounts, ensuring all journal entries, accruals, and prepayments comply with local statutory plans of accounts (Plan General de Contabilidad in Spain, Codice Civile / OIC in Italy) as well as IFRS
- Reconciliation & Close Processes: Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual closing cycles, reviewing key control account reconciliations, localized tax accounts, bank feeds, and statutory reserves.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review local statutory financial statements (Cuentas Anuales in Spain, Bilancio d'Esercizio in Italy) and group management reporting, delivering variance analyses to senior leadership.
- Compliance & Audit: Serve as the main point of contact for external auditors and local tax authorities (AEAT in Spain, Agenzia delle Entrate in Italy), maintaining rigorous audit trails and internal controls.
- Process Optimisation: Streamline local record-to-report workflows within the ERP system, automating manual reconciliations and standardising multi-entity GL processes across Southern Europe.
- Intercompany & Consolidations: Manage cross-border intercompany allocations, transfer pricing adjustments, and elimination entries for Spanish and Italian entities in line with group consolidation procedures.
- Budgeting & Forecasting Support: Provide validated regional financial actuals to FP&A and business controllers to support annual budget models and rolling cash forecasts.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with local AP, AR, and Payroll teams to ensure smooth transaction flows, aligned sub-ledgers, and consistent financial data integrity across regional operations.

- Regulatory Knowledge: Monitor updates to local accounting frameworks, statutory filing standards, and EU financial directives to ensure timely adjustment of local reporting processes.
Requirements:
- Familiarity with integrated systems (AP, AR, GL and Payroll)
- Knowledge of office productivity tools (MS Office)
- Exposure to automation tools (RPA bots etc.) beneficial
