Job summary

Seras UK in Tilbury is seeking a hardworking General Labourer for our Raw Materials team. You will inspect, sort and process incoming wood materials, keep the site tidy and support safe production activities.

This hands-on role is 48 hours per week, Monday to Friday days, with a permanent contract. You will work outdoors, in a busy site environment, following safety procedures and reporting defects.

Qualifications

• Health, safety and environmental standards knowledge is required.
• Experience in waste/recycling/manufacturing/industrial operations.
• Ability to work in a team and in outdoor settings.
• Traffic Marshal training and licence are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming wood loads and remove contamination (plastic, paper, non-wood).
• Sort and prepare materials for processing.
• Move materials and assist with refuelling and housekeeping tasks.
• Carry out site housekeeping to maintain safety and cleanliness.
• Perform daily equipment checks and report defects.
• Assist with basic maintenance within capability.
• Record operational information and pre-start checks.
• Follow safety procedures and reporting mechanisms.
• Capable of acting as Traffic Marshal when trained.
• Operate mobile or static plant equipment when trained.

Description

We're looking for a hardworking and safety-conscious General Labourer to join our Raw Materials team in Tilbury.

This is a hands-on role where you'll contribute directly to the efficient operation of the site, helping to inspect, sort and process incoming wood materials, maintain high housekeeping standards, and support safe production activities.

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday days, 48 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspecting incoming wood loads and removing contamination such as plastic, paper and non-wood materials.
• Sorting and preparing materials for processing.
• Supporting site operations by moving materials, emptying tip bins and assisting with refuelling activities.
• Carrying out housekeeping activities across the site to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Completing daily machinery and equipment checks and reporting any defects.
• Assisting with basic maintenance activities within your capabilities.
• Recording operational information, pre-start checks and relevant site documentation.
• Working safely in accordance with company procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Acting as a Traffic Marshal when trained and authorised.
• Operating mobile or static plant equipment when appropriately trained.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
• Ability to work effectively within a team.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work in an operational, outdoor environment.

• Previous experience working within waste, recycling, manufacturing, aggregates or industrial operations.
• Traffic Marshal training.
• Mobile plant experience.
• Telehandler licence or experience.
• Experience carrying out load inspections or material sorting activities.
