Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a capable General Foreman to lead civil engineering works on the Sizewell C project. You’ll manage earthworks, drainage and concrete tasks, taking ownership from start to handover while coordinating with subcontractors and site teams.

Applicants should have extensive foreman experience on large projects, with SMSTS/SSSTS, CSCS supervisory credentials and a focus on safety, deadlines and quality. Night shifts and leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams are valued.

Qualifications

• Significant experience as a General Foreman on major civil engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of site logistics and heavy plant operations.
• Experience managing teams during night operations is desirable.
• SMSTS/SSSTS certification (SMSTS preferred).
• CSCS card (Supervisory or higher).
• First aid at work (advantageous).
• Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and work to tight programmes.
• Strong communication skills with subcontractors.

About the role

Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable load low‑carbon electricity.

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke.

What you'll be doing

The role is responsible the deliveryin the delivery of high profile projects involving earthworks, deep drainage and reinforced concrete construction, to ensure that customer expectations are exceeded and enhanced experience for all involved in the scheme. Solution orientated individual, with ability to analyse risks and benefits of options to resolve identified issues. Proven experience of working to tight deadlines with an ability to prioritise and multi-task.

Capable of taking ownership of the works or a section of the works from start to finish, including the handover of the works.

Who we're looking for

• Significant experience as a General Foreman on major civil engineering projects (earthworks, highways, infrastructure, or large‑scale industrial sites preferred).


• Strong understanding of heavy plant operations, site logistics, and safe systems of work.


• Experience managing teams during night operations (desirable but not essential).


• SMSTS or SSSTS certification (SMSTS preferred).


• CSCS card (Supervisory or higher).


• First aid at work (advantageous).


• Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and work to tight programmes.


• Strong communication skills with the ability to manage subcontractors effectively.
