Job summary

Construction Marine Ltd (CML) is seeking 2 General Foremen to join our Bridgwater team. The role involves supervising civil engineering and earthworks with railway maintenance work, based from our Bridgwater depot and across the South West region. Some site travel is required, including nights and weekends.

You will oversee personnel, plant, subcontractors and equipment, ensuring safety and timeliness within programme constraints. Strong leadership and rail project experience are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Experience in Civil Engineering/Earthworks projects, with rail exposure preferred.
• Proven ability to supervise, motivate and train site teams.
• Strong safety awareness and SSSTS certification required.
• PTS certification essential; willingness to work away from home.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate deployment of personnel, plant, subcontractors and equipment to meet site activities.
• Lead railway maintenance work on the Wales & Western CAM Framework for Network Rail from Bridgwater depot.
• Conduct inductions, site briefings and inspections; update weekly progress against plans and drawings.
• Promote safety and ensure compliance with HSEQ policies; maintain daily site records and reporting.
• Liaise with Project Manager and Site Engineer on changes; identify training needs for staff.

CML are on the lookout for 2 General Foremen, to join our multi-disciplinary team in Bridgwater.This position is predominantly based around the South Westarea but will require some flexibility in working away.

Your Responsibilities:

As a General Foreman at CML, you will be responsible for ensuring an effective deployment of personnel, plant, subcontractors and equipment to achieve the allocated site activities within the allowed programme period.

You will be working on the Wales &Western CAM Framework for Network Rail, based from our depot in Bridgwater, undertaking railway maintenance work, including but not limited to Civils and Earthworks.

The main functions of your role will be to:

• Carry out inductions, daily site briefings and daily inspections, recording any changes to methods of work or site conditions

• Organise, motivate and supervise your site operatives and subcontractors at all times

• Have a full understanding of work objectives, programmes and project details to ensure the contract is carried out correctly to timescales, mark up programmes and drawings with the progress on a weekly basis

• Promote and implement safety arrangements (including close call reporting) and methods of working to ensure compliance with CML Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental policies, making any suggestions to ensure a safe site

• Maintain and record daily site records, returns, ID, and any additional works found, reporting these to the Project or Site Manager, to be returned to Head Office

• Liaise with the Site and Project Manager and Site Engineer on any necessary changes to site activities

• Identify any further training needs and review competencies of site personnel

• Any other duties as may reasonably be required

Person Specification:

The perfect candidate will have:

• A background in Civil Engineering/ Earthworks projects – Essential (Rail highly desirable)

• Experience in supervising, motivating and supporting the training of groups of team members on site – Essential

• A strong knowledge and demonstrable behaviours in Safety Awareness

• SSSTS – Essential

• A good ability to plan and manage time

• A positive and professional attitude, with the confidence and talent to deliver excellence to our clients

• The ability and willingness to regularly work away from home, as well as on nights and weekends

• PTS - Essential

Preferred competencies:

• First Aid - Highly desirable

• COSS - Highly desirable

• Machine tickets and experience
