Job summary

4xtrahands is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable person to join the family farm in North Yorkshire. The role covers arable and sheep enterprises, with a varied, long-term schedule, 39-hour week, and potential weekend work. You’ll drive farm machinery, assist lambing, and support cattle care in a busy family environment.

The package includes accommodation on site by negotiation, 29 days holiday, and 1.5x overtime. We value honesty, conscientiousness and teamwork, with references required.

Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable person to join the family farming business based in the Vale of York, North Yorkshire. This is a varied, long-term position working across our arable and sheep enterprises. We are a progressive family farm based near Easingwold. The mixed farm is 1000ac with combinable and root crops, 300 breeding ewes and bed and breakfast cattle. We pride ourselves on maintaining high standards, modern machinery and a supportive working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Arable: harvest operations, cultivations, spraying, drilling, machinery servicing and maintenance
• Livestock: lambing, administering vaccines and wormers, winter housing for bed and breakfast cattle
• General farm maintenance: fencing, woodland management, environmental improvements

Requirements and Skills

• Full clean driving licence is essential
• Extensive experience in driving and handling farm machinery.
• Experience and confidence handling sheep and working around cattle
• PA1 and PA2 certificates, and telehandler certificate desirable
• The successful candidate will take pride in their work, be conscientious, honest and reliable, be willing to take on responsibility and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team and the family.

The Package

• Competitive salary dependent on experience
• 1.5 hourly rate for overtime
• Normal working week of 39 hours with the working hours being 7.30-16.30 Monday to Thursday, and 7.30-15.30 on a Friday, with 1 hour for lunch, with the expectation of working overtime in busy periods
• Rota work (every other weekend) for standard weekend work checking livestock, with the requirement of more flexibility during seasonal busy periods.

• Accommodation is available on separate negotiation currently a 2 bed cottage off farm, but we would require the successful candidate to move to a 3 bed cottage on the farm after renovations have been completed.
