To support the operation of farm enterprises through maintaining a culture of health and safety, biosecurity, engaging with third parties, maintaining crop, animal handling and health, maintenance and cleanliness of machinery.
The General Farm Worker apprentice will typically be required to drive farm vehicles and must hold the appropriate license.
The apprentice will work alongside the supervisor, supporting daily operations for the farm enterprises including identifying and maintaining animal or plant health performance, conducting routine tasks and assisting with general record keeping practices.
The apprentice will manage the storage of forage and crop, minimising waste and disposing of necessary waste appropriately. Animal welfare and risk awareness and prevention are integral to this occupation.
Applicants must demonstrate a keen interest in farming as a career choice.
GCSE grades of 3 or above in Maths and English (desirable).
Applicants must have a suitable employer or be actively looking for an employer.
1-2-1 teaching and observations; A training specialist will coach, teach, and support the apprentice at the farm on a one-to-one basis, visiting at regular and agreed intervals.
Face-to-face teaching as a group; block delivery throughout the year with other apprentices in the area.
The teaching location will be at a central point to those on the apprenticeship in the area.
Tutorials; Apprentices will be offered regular 1-2-1 tutorial time remotely with their specialist trainer.
E-learning; we provide an e-learning platform with work and activities for apprentices to complete.

The broad purpose of the occupation is to operationally manage the livestock-related tasks on the farm such as animal health and welfare from conception and birth through to the customer; and to support business productivity. The individual will make key decisions on a day-to-day basis to ensure the protection of their own and health and safety of others. This includes ensuring the standards of cross compliance, farm assurance, biosecurity and infrastructure security are met. The Livestock Unit Technician will usually only work with one species. The role will include the safe use and maintenance of farm vehicles, including the equipment used for transporting or producing feed. The individual will be required to understand, record and meet the business Key Performance Indicators that are set out by the employer.
