General Cover Supervisor – Secondary School (Wakefield)

Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Temp-to-Perm

Are you an energetic and adaptable individual seeking experience in a secondary school environment? A well-regarded secondary school in Wakefield is looking for a Cover Supervisor to manage classrooms and provide support in the absence of the class teacher. This role is perfect for someone who wants to gain classroom experience before pursuing teacher training or those with a background in education or youth work.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Management: Supervise pre-planned lessons in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring that students stay engaged and focused.

Lesson Delivery: Follow lesson plans, providing instructions and guidance where necessary, ensuring that learning objectives are met.

Behavioural Support: Maintain a positive learning environment by effectively managing student behaviour using established classroom management techniques.

Assessment: Monitor and assist students’ progress during the lesson, ensuring that all students are working to the best of their ability.

Collaboration: Work alongside teaching staff to ensure smooth transitions between lessons and handover of any important student information.

Ideal Candidate:

Experience: Experience working with young people, either in a school or other educational setting, is highly desirable.

Skills: Strong classroom presence, ability to communicate effectively with students, and flexibility to adapt to different subjects and teaching styles.

Qualifications: A degree or relevant qualification in education, youth work, or related fields is advantageous but not essential.

Personality: A proactive, friendly, and resilient approach to handling the dynamics of a classroom and supporting the learning environment.
