GENERAL COUNSEL – UPSTREAM OIL AND GAS

Location: LONDON

Type: PERMANENT ROLE

Role Overview:

Morgan Philips Specialist Recruitment is currently representing a leading independent oil and gas exploration and production company in their search for a General Counsel.

Reporting to the global CEO and being part of the company executive committee, the successful candidate will lead the global legal function and have overall responsibility for company-wide legal matters.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Lead and develop a global team of 10 legal professionals
2. Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including joint venture agreements, farm-in/farm-out agreements, drilling contracts, and service agreements.
3. Lead the company’s legal risk management strategy, identifying emerging legal issues and advising on proactive solutions.
4. Lead on legal due diligence, structuring, and documentation for M&A activity, asset sales, and acquisitions.
5. Handle any litigation and/or arbitration matters which may arise, working with external counsel as needed.
6. Manage key legal requirements in areas such as employment law, corporate governance, and company secretarial matters.
