Job summary

Sodexo, based at Portsmouth Naval Base, is seeking a General Assistant to support daily operations and deliver a high standard of service to customers.

You will work hands-on in a friendly team, covering cleaning, stock handling, deliveries, and customer service, with opportunities to grow through training and development.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering, retail or similar operational environment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
• A full clean driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the team with the day-to-day running of the operation.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
• Restocking shelves and ensuring stores and supplies are kept well stocked.
• Checking and receiving deliveries and reporting any discrepancies.
• Assisting with the movement and storage of stock.
• Following food storage, handling and disposal procedures.
• Completing cleaning duties in line with the required cleaning schedules.
• Using cleaning equipment, machinery and chemicals safely and correctly.
• Following all company, customer and site procedures.
• Providing excellent customer service and maintaining positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
• Taking care of equipment, stock and other resources.
• Reporting accidents, near misses, faulty equipment or other issues to management.
• Attending team briefings and training as required.
• Carrying out any other reasonable duties as requested by your manager

As a General Assistant at Portsmouth Naval Base, you’ll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day operation of our facilities and helping us deliver a high standard of service to our customers.

You’ll be part of a friendly and supportive team, carrying out a variety of duties across the operation. No two days will necessarily be the same, so this role would suit someone who enjoys being hands‑on, working as part of a team and taking pride in getting the job done to a high standard.
