Job description

General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist – PICU 6 PA's + RRP up to 30%

**This post is being advertised pending Royal College approval**

This is a great opportunity for a part-time (6 PA's) Consultant for a new 14-bed Male PICU, based in Derby. Derbyshire Healthcare is embarking on a programme to create purpose-built facilities that improve safety, privacy, and dignity for adult acute mental health patients by replacing dormitory accommodation. As part of this initiative, a new state-of-the-art Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) will be built on the Kingsway Hospital site, Derby.

The 14-bed male PICU will focus on therapeutic interventions and adhere to national PICU standards. Scheduled to open around November 2024, this role offers a unique chance to shape the service and develop the team alongside the Ward Manager and senior leaders.

Our organization emphasizes quality of care, peer support, and clinical engagement in service development. We welcome candidates enthusiastic about innovation, teaching, and development, and capable of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues.

This post offers a 30% RRP, based on the bottom of the National Consultant (2003) pay scale, subject to review, with a golden hello payment upon appointment. An relocation package of £8,000 is available, subject to certain conditions.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership within the department, supporting service development and working closely with the MDT to ensure high standards of therapeutic care within a newly built, specialist ward environment.

You will lead a team providing inpatient care for patients with mental health conditions needing intensive treatment, fostering an environment that respects patients' cultures, experiences, and strengths to support recovery.

Our PICU ethos promotes co-production of care with service users, involving carers, clinicians, practitioners, and external agencies to develop individualized, therapeutic, and effective recovery plans.

Please inquire about our generous relocation package.
