Job description

Job Title: General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist – West Midlands

Specialty: General Adult

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882

Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to join an NHS Trust in the West Midlands. This full-time, permanent position is based on a 20-bed male acute ward, with working hours from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

The role is available to start ASAP but can accommodate notice periods of up to three months.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Management of 20 inpatient beds, reducing to 19 beds within 6 months, for male patients of working age from Coventry and Warwickshire.
  2. Management of complex cases, including assessing diagnostic uncertainty and developing management plans.
  3. Providing clinical leadership to the team and engaging with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
  4. Assessing referrals and admissions, liaising with the forensic mental health team.
  5. Formulating care plans and treatments, guiding evidence-based practices.
  6. Collaborating with other services and agencies.
  7. Implementing the Mental Health Act, including assessments for Sections 2 and 3, initiating CTOs, and liaising with the Ministry of Justice regarding conditionally discharged patients.
  8. Engaging in multi-disciplinary, multi-agency, and partnership working.

Minimum Requirements
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management (preferred).
  • MRCPsych or equivalent.
  • Fully registered with the GMC and licensed to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT.
  • Approved Clinician status or ability to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
