Job description

The Onyx Research Data Tech organization is GSK’s Research data ecosystem, capable of bringing together, analyzing, and powering data exploration at scale. We partner with scientists across GSK to understand their challenges and develop tailored solutions, ensuring they have the right data and insights to accelerate medical discovery and better predict and treat diseases.

Onyx is a full-stack team comprising product and portfolio leadership, data engineering, infrastructure and DevOps, data/metadata/knowledge platforms, and AI/ML, GenAI, and analysis platforms, all focused on:

  • Creating a next-generation, metadata- and automation-driven data experience for GSK’s scientists, engineers, and decision-makers to boost productivity and reduce data handling time.

  • Providing top-tier AI/ML, GenAI, and data analysis environments to enhance predictive capabilities and attract leading talent.

  • Engineering our data at scale as a unified asset to unlock its full value in real-time.

Our GenAI Engineering team develops advanced GenAI capabilities at scale, including complex agent architectures, large language model (LLM) training, optimized deployments, and multi-agent applications impacting all R&D teams at GSK.

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a key engineer for the GenAI platform, providing technical expertise to related teams such as AIML Platform, DevOps, Compute, and Cloud.
  • Co-design major software components of the GenAI Platform and contribute to production code in Python, participating in design and PR reviews.
  • Be responsible for key components focusing on usability, reproducibility, and performance at scale.
  • Integrate with DataOps and Data Engineering products for optimal ML training performance.
  • Participate in scrum teams, offering technical expertise.
  • Design innovative strategies to improve the end-user environment.
  • Uphold engineering best practices, including CI/CD, and contribute to ongoing improvements.

Why you?

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Significant industry experience in software engineering.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of Python, including tools for documentation, testing, and operations.
  • Expertise in modern software development tools (git, DevOps, monitoring).
  • Cloud experience (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), infrastructure-as-code tools, and scalable cloud compute technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale LLM training and deployment.
  • Experience with agentic AI frameworks (Langgraph, Langchain) and building multi-agent applications.
  • Deep experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and libraries (Huggingface, Deepspeed).
  • Knowledge of ML performance tuning, multi-GPU/TPU training, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Familiarity with ML workflow orchestration tools (Vertex Pipelines, MLFlow).
  • Experience with MLOps tools (Kubeflow, Vertex AI, vLLM, Ollama).
  • Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and CNCF tools, including Helm.
  • Understanding of HPC systems and performance optimization.
  • Engagement with open-source AIML tools and communities.
  • Experience working in agile environments with Jira and Confluence.
