Job summary

Remedy Education is seeking an experienced Maths and English Tutor to provide 1:1 educational support for a Year 11 learner in Cumbria. The role focuses on GCSE outcomes and involves working within a residential care setting to re-engage the learner with learning.

The ideal candidate will have SEMH experience, strong behaviour management, an Enhanced DBS, and the ability to work with professionals across services. Flexible hours offered with consultant support.

Location: Carlisle, Cumbria (CA2 area)
Hours: 10 hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 2 hours per day

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and resilient Maths and English Tutor to provide 1:1 educational support to a Year 11 learner currently living in a residential care setting in Cumbria.

The learner has been out of education for a period of time and requires a tutor who can help re-engage them with learning, build trust, and support progress towards GCSE-level outcomes in Maths and English.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a young person's educational journey while working within a multi-agency support framework.

Student Profile

The learner:

• Is currently in Year 11.
• Has been placed in residential care outside their home borough.
• Has experienced significant disruption to education.
• Requires structured, patient, and consistent support to re-engage with learning.
• Is known to mental health services and requires a tutor who can work sensitively alongside existing professional support.
• May present with behaviours that can be challenging and will require clear boundaries, strong behaviour-management skills, and a trauma-informed approach.

The Ideal Tutor

We are seeking a tutor who has:

• Experience working with young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• Experience delivering GCSE Maths and/or English.
• Confidence working on a 1:1 basis in alternative provision, care, or community settings.
• A calm, resilient, and professional manner.
• The ability to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
