Job Title: In-Person GCSE Tutor with SEN Experience (Flexible, Part-Time)
Location: Student's home (specific location provided to shortlisted applicants)
Hours: Part-time, flexible (weekday evenings or weekends preferred)
Start Date: ASAP or by mutual agreement
We are looking for a knowledgeable, empathetic, and experienced GCSE tutor to provide in-person tuition at the student’s home, with a particular focus on supporting a young person with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making learning accessible and enjoyable for every student, regardless of their learning profile.
A secondary school-aged student currently preparing for their GCSEs
Requires support across key subjects, with a particular focus on Maths and English
Has additional learning needs, including challenges with concentration and processing information
Responds well to a calm, consistent, and encouraging approach
Delivering structured, engaging 1:1 tutoring sessions in line with the GCSE curriculum
Breaking down complex topics into manageable, accessible parts
Using creative and adaptive strategies to support the student’s SEN profile
Building a strong, trusting relationship to encourage motivation and confidence
Providing regular feedback to parents on progress, challenges, and achievements
Creating a safe, positive learning environment that fosters independence
Strong subject knowledge across GCSE-level Maths and English (other subjects welcome)
Experience working with students with SEN (such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, etc.)
Ability to adapt lesson plans to meet individual learning needs
A caring, reliable, and professional approach
Enhanced DBS check (current and valid, or willingness to obtain one)
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or equivalent teaching qualification
Previous experience as a 1:1 tutor or teaching assistant in a school or home setting
Familiarity with specific SEN strategies or interventions (e.g., scaffolding, visual aids, sensory supports)
A supportive and respectful working relationship with the family
