Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated GCSE English Tutor to provide 1:1 tuition for a learner in Chester.

You will plan engaging, differentiated lessons, target reading, writing and comprehension, and monitor progress across the tuition programme. The role is 5–15 hours per week, starting September 2026, with ongoing opportunities.

Experience teaching GCSE English and the ability to tailor sessions to the learner's needs are essential.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a dedicated GCSE English Tutor to provide 1:1 tuition to a young person in Chester.

We are looking for an enthusiastic educator who can make sessions engaging while helping the learner strengthen their English skills and prepare for their GCSE studies.

• Plan lessons according to the learner's current ability
• Support development across reading, writing and comprehension
• Identify and address gaps in knowledge
• Build learner confidence and motivation
• Monitor progress throughout the tuition programme
• Adapt resources and teaching methods as required

Essential Criteria

• Experience teaching or tutoring GCSE English
• Good understanding of the GCSE English curriculum
• Previous experience working with young people
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to deliver engaging and differentiated lessons
• QTS, PGCE or relevant teaching experience is desirable
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
• Right to Work in the UK
• Two professional references involving work with children
