Job summary

A leading further education college in Harrow is seeking a full-time GCSE English & Functional Skills Lecturer. GCSE English & Functional Skills Lecturer – FE College – Permanent – Full-Time - Harrow

Role: GCSE English & Functional Skills Lecturer
Location: Harrow
Salary: £32,455 to £45,260 per annum including London Weighting
Post Type: Full Time
Closing Date: 21st of May 2025

We are seeking to appoint full-time Lecturers to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English within our cross-College provision, primarily to vocational learners aged 16-18, with a growing provision of part-time adult learners.

This is a challenging and rewarding area of the College. You would play a key role in supporting our vocational learners with their development and to help them progress onto higher courses or the workplace.

You will join a team of skilled teachers with a wealth of experience and knowledge, who are proactive in sharing best practices to engage and enthuse resit learners.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in English or related subject (or minimum of Level 3 qualification plus proven successful experience of teaching English/Literacy/ESOL/EFL for at least 2 years)
  • CELTA or equivalent
  • Minimum Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g., DET, PGCE) or willingness to work towards this, supported by the College

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of teaching or tutoring GCSE, Functional Skills English, EFL, ESOL or literacy
  • Ability to take on course leadership responsibility
  • Experience of working in Further Education
  • Understanding of exam requirements for GCSE/Functional Skills

Other Skills:

  • Ability to engage and enthuse vocational learners aged 16-18
  • Effective management of challenging behaviour and engagement of reluctant learners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Effective classroom management
  • Competence in using IT within the curriculum, including delivering online/remotely
  • Strong organizational skills and effective use of IT systems
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Understanding of Equality, Diversity, and Safeguarding principles
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Self-motivation and awareness of diverse learning needs
  • Willingness to deliver one evening class per week until 9.00 pm on Thursdays
  • Dedication to learners and learner achievement
