FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Junior GCP Cloud Engineer to work for our client within the banking sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Sheffield.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with experience (or strong interest) in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and a solid foundation in Python and SQL. You’ll support the design and implementation of cloud-native solutions, develop automation tools, and contribute to data pipelines and system performance monitoring.

Responsibilities:

1. Design, implement, and manage scalable infrastructure on GCP (Google Cloud Platform)
2. Build and maintain data pipelines and workflows using GCP-native tools (e.g., Cloud Dataflow, BigQuery, Pub/Sub)
3. Develop automation scripts and internal tools using Python
4. Write optimized SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and reporting
5. Monitor system performance and help troubleshoot issues across cloud services
6. Collaborate with data engineers, developers, and DevOps teams to deliver robust, cloud-native solutions
7. Support cloud governance initiatives: ensure security, compliance, and cost-efficiency of cloud operations
8. Document architecture decisions, automation processes, and best practices
