Job description

NI System Planning Manager (Exclusive)

VANRATH are delighted to be working exclusively with an innovative utility provider based in Belfast to recruit an NI System Planning Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join the business at the beginning of a new chapter of enhanced system planning for the NI gas transmission system.

Reporting to the General Manager, the NI Gas System Planning Manager will be responsible for initially implementing the new business function and ensuring ongoing deliverables, including the production and publication of the Gas Adequacy Statement and the Energy Horizons document, which will consider the future energy landscape in NI and highlight the requirements of the NI gas transmission network.

The Role:

  • Implement and oversee the new NI System Planning business function to deliver the Gas Adequacy Statement and the Energy Horizons publications.
  • Define, manage, and implement the communication plan related to NI gas system planning, ensuring high stakeholder engagement and promoting the reports and key findings to multiple stakeholders.
  • Engage with policymakers, industry players, operators, academia, and other relevant stakeholders to gather data and develop scenarios for system and energy modeling.
  • Coordinate with the electricity system operator (SONI) to ensure alignment on assumptions, scenarios, and timelines for system planning publications.
  • Manage the end-to-end development of system planning publications, ensuring timely delivery and stakeholder management.
  • Participate in working groups to share knowledge on local and UK-wide energy policies affecting NI.
  • Present final reports to industry stakeholders via meetings, presentations, or conferences, and promote outcomes appropriately.
  • Conduct internal training and knowledge sharing on system planning.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on NI system planning, representing NI gas TSOs in engagements at various levels, including forums and consultations.
  • Develop the NI system planning function to meet future requirements of the NI Gas TSOs.

  • Understanding of renewable energy technologies and their applications.
