We have a fantastic opportunity for a Gas Markets Change Analyst to join our Gas Market Strategy Team and help us to develop our gas expertise.

In this role you will provide insights, recommendations and analysis to develop NESO led changes through to implementation, as well as support wider Industry engagement and represent NESO at Industry change meetings.

As a Gas Markets Change Analyst, you will provide insight to the Gas Market Change Manager and wider NESO teams in UNC change, as well as work on the development of Hydrogen, Biomethane and other energy sources.

This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick or Glasgow, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

1. Is passionate about gas industry regulations, ensuring they are fit for purpose, future proofed and robust.
2. Understands the gas market and associated frameworks – including an understanding of the regulatory environment, key industry players, and the long-term trends affecting the industry.
3. Has experience of the regulatory change process.
4. Has strong communication skills, including the ability to produce and deliver accurate written reports, policy / market narrative and commentary, and presentation materials to internal (often senior) stakeholders.
5. Is experienced in building effective stakeholder relationships – including working with senior colleagues and external partners, institutions, networks, and industry stakeholders.
6. A passion for tackling climate change as we transition GB’s energy system to Net Zero.

A competitive salary between £45000 – £70000 p.a. – dependent on experience and capability.

Key Accountabilities

1. Provide high-quality, methodical, and researched analysis and insight to support the Gas Market team in the development of Policy / Market Strategy / Code Change.
2. Support Managers and Senior Managers in the analysis of market trends and dynamics (including evaluating social, political, technological, economic, and environmental insights) to support the development of a long-term view for the NESO.
3. Conduct detailed analysis, benchmarking and collate positions to inform the NESO’s senior leadership, market players, Ofgem, etc., in respect of the UK’s gas market – this includes supporting in the provision of regular market updates, identifying key trends and drivers, and creating analysis that supports strategic decision making.
4. Project manage / lead key work assignments related to the important questions that underpin the development of a gas market perspective – keep senior colleagues informed on progress, reporting findings as necessary, and translating such work into meaningful insights that shape future strategy development.
5. As requested, liaise and / or coordinate with industry, academic and markets experts, as well as internal experts across the NESO, to collate the intelligence needed to create the Policy / Market Strategy / Market Change.
6. Undertake ad hoc projects and initiatives as requested by senior NESO Leadership.
