Typical Duties:
- Installation: Installing new gas appliances like boilers, cookers, and fires.
- Maintenance: Servicing, repairing, and maintaining existing gas systems.
- Fault Finding: Diagnosing and repairing faults in gas appliances and heating systems.
- Safety Checks: Conducting safety inspections and issuing gas safety certificates.
- Customer Service: Providing advice to customers on gas safety and energy efficiency, and potentially offering additional cover options.
- Emergency Response: Responding to emergency calls related to gas leaks and breakdowns.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Gas Safe Registered Engineer: Holding a valid Gas Safe license is mandatory for all gas engineers in the UK, according to Gas Safe Registry.
- Accredited Training: Completion of accredited training courses and qualifications in gas engineering.
- Practical Experience: Demonstrated experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing gas appliances.
- Relevant Qualifications: Qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Gas Engineering or equivalent may be required.
- Knowledge of Regulations: A thorough understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and safety procedures.
- Customer Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, explaining work procedures and providing advice.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues related to gas systems.
- Health and Safety Awareness: A strong understanding of health and safety procedures and risk assessments related to gas work.
