Job summary

Royal Mail Group is recruiting a Mobile Gas Engineer for a 12-month fixed-term contract in the Enfield area. You will diagnose, maintain, and repair gas and water systems, perform basic plumbing tasks, and support customer relationships across multiple sites.

A company van is provided, with on-call rota participation and UK-wide travel within the defined area. The role requires Domestic and Commercial gas qualifications, Gas Safe registration, and 18th Edition knowledge, with a full UK driving

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical diagnosis and routine maintenance on gas, hot & cold water, and some electrical systems.
• Perform fault finding, repair, and installation tasks and liaise with customers.
• Carry out basic plumbing work and replacements (taps, sinks, cisterns, heating elements).
• Work across multiple sites within a defined area and participate in an out-of-hours rota.

We are currently recruiting for a Mobile Gas Engineer

Salary

£44,551.95 plus London allowance of £3,202.24 per annum plus standby allowance c£290 per week, when on rota, and appropriate overtime rate when attending the call, 22.5 days annual leave, rising to 25 after 5 years' service plus bank holidays.

Contract

Fixed Term 12 months, Full time 37.5 hours per week (excluding meal breaks) - typical attendance will be 08:00 until 16:00 Monday to Friday however, flexibility is essential.

You’ll be required to join an out of hours callout rota 1 in 4 weeks covering a wider area.

You will cover postcodes: (NN) Northampton, (MK) Milton Keynes, (HP) Hemel Hempstead, (WD) Watford, (EN) Enfield and (AL) St Albans

Flexibility is key - you’ll be working across multiple sites within a defined area, and a company vehicle will be provided to support your travel. Your excellent communication skills will help you build strong relationships with both customers and managers, keeping everyone informed and aligned. Strong organisational skills will also be essential to manage your workload effectively and ensure smooth project delivery.

A bit about the role

As a Mobile Gas Engineer, you’ll provide technical diagnosis and solutions, performing routine maintenance checks in relation to Gas and Hot & Cold Water systems along with some electrical maintenance. You’ll perform fault finding, maintenance, repair and installation of these systems and will regularly liaise with customers. You will carry out basic plumbing tasks, including replacing taps, sinks, cistern flush units, and heating elements.

A bit about you

• Must hold both Domestic and Commercial gas qualification/certification either CCN1 or CODNCO1 and must be a Gas Safe registered Gas engineer
• Qualified and accredited by Gas Safe in commercial gas modules to include CIGA1, CORT1, CENWAT and TPCP1A
• Basic Plumbing experience
• Experience maintaining gas equipment / pipe work and hot and cold water systems
• Fault-finding and diagnostic experience with strong problem-solving skills
• Strong understanding of health & safety and Gas Safe regulations
• 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations
• Basic IT literacy and confident using digital job management systems
• Experience of completing job certificates in an electronic format
• Full UK manual Driving Licence is required, as this vacancy will involve travel within a specified area for which a van will be provided.
• Demonstrable experience of liaising with customers
• Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively
