Job summary

Ex-armed Forces is seeking an experienced Gas Designer to join our design team and drive high-quality gas infrastructure projects across the UK. You will be involved from site surveys through to detailed design, governance and construction support, collaborating with engineers, clients and consultants.

You will develop technical expertise while delivering across all project phases, ensuring CDM 2015 compliance and maintaining safety files.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualifications are desirable, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.
• Experience designing intermediate-pressure and high-pressure gas mains.
• Previous experience working within the gas industry on complex or high-profile projects.
• Good understanding of relevant gas industry engineering specifications and IGEM standards.
• Knowledge and awareness of CDM 2015.
• Proficient user of AutoCAD.
• Competent using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage workloads across multiple projects, to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A proactive approach to identifying and resolving design issues.
• Willingness to mentor and support less experienced colleagues.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor industry best practices and identify new design approaches.
• Develop high-quality design concepts through iterative reviews with stakeholders.
• Cover all project phases from setup to construction support.
• Review STAT plans and provide design input.
• Support other design team members with technical input.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams to deliver projects.
• Resolve design issues with clients and third parties promptly.
• Produce weekly design reports and present at design meetings.
• Conduct site visits and surveys for as-built drawings.
• Represent the organisation at client pre-design meetings.
• Ensure CDM 2015 compliance throughout the design process.
• Create and maintain Health & Safety File across project stages.
• Produce detailed drawings, plans and general arrangements.
• Work with Framework/Project Managers to meet budgets and schedules.
• Assist with design queries during construction.
• Navigate G17 governance for designs.
• Travel to sites UK-wide for tenders, surveys and reviews.
