Job Description:
We have a temporary contract for a Junior Garment Technologist specializing in Menswear to join a leading high street retailer. The contract is initially for 6 weeks, with potential to extend.
Candidates must have previous experience in Menswear multi-product casualwear and trousers, and be able to manage their own products covering fit sessions autonomously.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for a range or department, providing support to the Technology team and representing the Client externally.
- Work independently to deliver clear specifications on Design Tech packs, including blocks, fit, fabric quality, standards, construction, and components, adhering to Environmental Policy.
- Ensure the block library is up to date and seasonal patterns are in progress according to the critical path.
- Meet all technical deadlines aligned with BU critical path, optimizing lead times while maintaining standards.
- Approve all development samples following the approved process.
- Conduct ongoing cost engineering to optimize commercial viability without compromising standards.
- Collaborate with raw material suppliers and the Central fabric technology team to embed quality feedback and innovation into material strategy.
- Risk assess new materials for end use suitability.
- Maintain the raw material sourcing strategy within the department.
- Benchmark products against competitors and contribute to product development strategy.
- Drive innovation and deliver customer-focused benefits aligned with strategy.
- Coordinate with buying and design teams to meet business requirements.
- Stay updated on latest technology trends in raw materials, fabric, fiber, manufacturing, and packaging.
- Support digital development strategy with UK and SO teams & suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with safety, ethical, and legislative standards.
- Assist with customer service on product issues and monitor customer feedback for quality, fit, and performance improvements.
- Highlight and resolve quality issues with supply base and sourcing colleagues.
- Act as a business ambassador, safeguarding safety, ethical, and environmental standards.
- Adhere to and develop global best practices.
- Provide technical support to stores, departments, marketing, and digital selling teams.
- Ensure accuracy of PLM data at tech pack stage, including materials, components, measurements, and innovation.
Skills required:
- Ability to learn new technical skills and manage personal development.
- Excellent communication skills across functions and with suppliers.
- Ability to interpret departmental strategy and provide technical insights.
- Multitasking under tight deadlines, knowing when to decide or seek guidance.
- Data analysis skills (CIU, Bizarre Voice, QPI’s, PLM) to support strategic decisions.
- Experience in creating product specifications.
- Proficiency in managing departmental data and systems for reporting.
- Ability to work across multiple sourcing models.
- Adaptability to change and process improvements.
