Job Description:

We have a temporary contract for a Junior Garment Technologist specialising in Menswear to join a leading high street retailer. The contract is initially for 6 weeks, with the potential to extend.

Candidates must have previous experience in Menswear multi-product casualwear and trousers and must be able to manage their own products, including fit sessions, autonomously.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for a range or department, providing support to the Technology team, representing the Client externally and the Department internally.
• Work independently to deliver clear specifications on Design Tech packs, including blocks, fit, fabric quality, made well standards, construction & components, adhering to Environmental Policy.
• Ensure the block library is up to date and seasonal patterns are in progress, following the critical path.
• Meet all technical deadlines in line with BU critical path, optimizing lead times while maintaining product standards.
• Approve all development samples according to the process.
• Conduct ongoing cost engineering to optimize products commercially while meeting client standards.
• Collaborate with raw material suppliers and the Central fabric technology team to ensure quality feedback and innovation in material strategy.
• Assess new materials for suitability for end use.
• Maintain the raw material sourcing strategy within the business.
• Benchmark products against competitors to ensure market-leading position and inform product development strategy.
• Drive innovation and deliver customer-focused benefits aligned with design, product, and innovation strategies.
• Work with buying and design teams to meet business requirements, aligning with overall strategy.
• Stay updated on latest technology trends in raw materials, fabric, fiber, manufacturing, and packaging, integrating insights into product development.
• Lead the development of the digital strategy, collaborating with UK and SO teams and suppliers.
• Ensure adherence to product safety, compliance, and ethical standards.
• Coordinate with customer services regarding product failures and monitor customer feedback to inform product improvements.
• Address quality issues proactively, working with supply base and sourcing colleagues.
• Act as a business ambassador, ensuring safety, ethical, and environmental standards are upheld.
• Contribute to developing global best practices and provide technical support to stores, departments, marketing, and digital selling.
• Maintain accurate PLM data at the tech pack stage, including material details, components, measurements, and innovations.

Skills required:

• Ability to learn new technical skills, absorb information, and manage personal development.
• Excellent communication skills across technical, design, buying, supply base, and global sourcing teams.
• Ability to interpret departmental strategy and provide technical insights.
• Proficiency in multitasking under tight deadlines, knowing when to decide or seek guidance.
• Data analysis skills (CIU, Bizarre Voice, QPI’s, PLM) to support strategic decisions.
• Experience in creating product specifications.
• Ability to manage departmental data and leverage systems for reporting.
• Ability to work across multiple sourcing models (client-designed, supplier-designed).
• Willingness to embrace change and embed new processes and ways of working.
