Job summary

Manton Heights Care Centre is seeking a friendly Gardener to maintain our gardens and outdoor spaces, creating a safe, welcoming area for residents, families and visitors.

You will manage lawns, borders, hedges and outdoor features, carry out mowing and pruning, and ensure paths and seating areas are clean and hazard-free. A gardening qualification or machinery experience is a plus, but practical experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Have practical gardening experience and knowledge of plants and garden maintenance.
• Be reliable, organised and able to work independently.
• Friendly, patient and respectful with older people.
• Be mindful of residents' privacy, dignity and needs.
• Willing to work as part of the wider care home team.
• A gardening qualification or machinery experience is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, flower beds, shrubs, hedges, trees and planted areas.
• Carry out mowing, pruning, weeding, planting and general garden maintenance.
• Keep pathways, patios and seating areas clean, tidy and free from hazards.
• Maintain garden furniture, planters and outdoor features.
• Ensure all gardening tools and equipment are used safely and stored securely.
• Identify and report any hazards, damaged pathways or maintenance concerns.
• Work safely and considerately around residents, visitors and staff.
• Support seasonal planting and gardening activities that residents may wish to participate in.
• Follow the care home's health and safety procedures and infection prevention guidance.
• Help maintain a welcoming, peaceful and accessible outdoor environment.
• Supporting within the care home as required.

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and caring Gardener to maintain the gardens and outdoor areas of our care home, creating a safe, attractive and welcoming environment for our residents, their families and visitors.

Our garden is an important part of home life, providing residents with a peaceful place to relax, enjoy fresh air, socialise and spend time outdoors. The successful candidate will take pride in maintaining the grounds and helping to make our outdoor spaces enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

A relevant gardening qualification or experience using gardening machinery would be an advantage but is not essential if the candidate has suitable practical experience.
