Job description

We are looking for a Game Designer to join our talented and motivated professionals working on exciting new projects in the Total War universe at our studio in Sofia, Bulgaria.

You'll become part of a world-class development team working on a title in the award-winning Total War series. You will be able to offer insights that shape our projects and directly influence our players' gaming experience.

You will develop and champion game features that provide immersive and engaging gameplay experiences, designing both game systems and content to leverage these systems effectively.

Beyond conceptual and technical skills, you must have strong game design intuition, understanding and iterating upon gameplay aesthetics and "feel".

Key Responsibilities

As a Game Designer, you will take ownership of multiple features, ensuring they are delivered to the highest quality. This includes researching, documenting, creating, implementing, balancing, and more. You will collaborate with the design team to create detailed feature designs and work closely with developers from other disciplines to ensure features are developed to the highest standard, from initial concept to final release.

You will be responsible for creating and maintaining fun and balanced features, communicating updates regularly to relevant teams, especially where your work impacts others, and proactively solving problems.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience

Essential

  • Some games industry knowledge and experience, understanding the development and delivery process of a game
  • Ability to analyze gameplay features, identify strengths and weaknesses, and recommend improvements
  • Experience with Excel and balancing large data sets for unit balance, progression systems, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Bulgarian, both verbal and written
  • Wide-ranging experience playing various video games and curiosity about their mechanics
  • Openness to feedback and ability to incorporate it into your work

Desirable

  • Shipped titles or personal projects, board game designs, etc.
  • Deep understanding of Total War games
  • Knowledge of strategy genres (Grand, RTS, 4X, etc.)
  • Modding experience
  • Scripting experience in LUA
  • Interest in history
  • Experience using metrics to improve design
  • Attention to detail and strong visual sense
