Teaching Personnel offers a 'Future Teachers Programme' in Sheffield, providing flexible paid placements in schools for those aspiring to a teaching career. Participants gain practical experience, classroom management skills, and the chance to achieve qualified teacher status, while receiving ongoing support and training.
Teaching can be an enriching and fulfilling profession. If you want to make a difference in someone's life, there is no better job than teaching. Like doctors, nurses, and vets, teaching is more than just a job; it's a vocation. With many options available to graduates, deciding on a career can be daunting.
Your teaching experience so far has likely been as a student. It's challenging to understand what teaching entails from the outside. Will you enjoy it? How will you manage a classroom? What is the daily life of a teacher like? What about marking and pupil behavior?
This is where the Teaching Personnel comes in. It offers a flexible route into a teaching career, allowing you to explore education before committing to Initial Teacher Training. We provide paid placements in schools, which can lead to qualified teacher status. Full and part-time options are available to fit your life.
Warren, who completed the Future Teachers Programme four years ago and is now a qualified PE teacher, says, "Having that year covering lessons made me feel like a teacher and helped me understand the skills needed."
If the Future Teachers Programme sounds right for you, the application process is quick and easy.
Once you've registered your interest, your local consultant will call to provide more information and answer questions. You'll complete Safeguarding checks before being introduced to partner schools.
Most schools will meet with you online or in person for a getting-to-know-you session before a formal interview. You'll learn more about the school and the programme.
If successful, you'll start a placement lasting up to one year, working as a Teaching Assistant (TA) and Cover Manager before planning your own lessons. Support, training, and reflection opportunities are provided, with ongoing support from Teaching Personnel and your in-school mentor.
Fouad, a Future Teacher trainee, shares, "Talking in front of a classroom was daunting at first, but now I am much more comfortable."
A placement in the Future Teachers programme prepares you for Initial Teacher Training. Some partner schools offer fully-funded PGCE places for successful trainees, while others assist in finding course placements and employment after qualification.
