Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority is seeking a highly experienced professional for a fusion safety regulatory role based at Culham. The job involves high-level radiological assessments, regulatory engagement and international collaboration to shape fusion safety frameworks.

The role requires SC clearance, onsite presence (3–5 days/week) and a strong track record in safety, security and environmental regulation within fusion or nuclear sectors.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or scientific discipline; experience or equivalent
• Working knowledge of safety, security, environmental protection and waste management regulations
• Experience in radiological consequence assessment and identifying hazards, release mechanisms and sequences of events
• Experience modelling releases to pathways, off-site and on-site, using ADMS and PACE
• Ability to apply high-level radiological assessment to risk, emergency planning and insurance matters
• Demonstrated ownership of tasks and ability to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

• Taking main responsibility for high-level radiological consequence assessment for postulated accident scenarios and guiding regulation development
• Providing specialist fusion safety, security and environment input into regulatory framework work
• Planning regulatory familiarisation and training activities such as site visits and expert presentations
• Interacting with fusion organisations and regulatory bodies to harmonise safety regulation
• Representing UK at national and international fusion industry workshops to develop safety standards
• Providing technical review and guidance on fusion safety regulation in line with UK fusion strategy
