Fundraising Officer - Voluntary (2-3 hours a week) - Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA)

Responsible to: The SARA Chief Executive Officer and Trustees.

Who are we?

SARA is a volunteer lifeboat and inland search and rescue charity, with seven lifeboat and rescue stations along the length of the River Severn. Each year SARA is called out over 100 times.

Where will this role be based?

This is a largely remote position with the intention of semi-regular in-person meetings. The ideal location of candidates would be anywhere within an hour of Chepstow, though further travel is not an issue.

Background

SARA requires approximately £250,000 per annum to run the charity, acquiring and maintaining rescue assets, providing PPE and resources to the 200+ volunteers and insuring our activities. All funds are raised from the public, local businesses and grants. No salaries are paid to anyone. Each of the 7 SARA stations have responsibility to raise funds, with most having a crew member leading the fundraising for that station.

Overall Responsibility

Maximising the income of SARA through fundraising, major partnerships and other fundraising activities. Overseeing all SARA’s Fundraising and External Communications activities.

Specific Responsibilities

1. Work with the CEO and Chairman to develop and oversee relationships with major supporter stakeholders – businesses, ambassadors and patrons, major individual donors and marketing partners.
2. Develop SARA’s strategy to raise funds from new sources such as Wills & Bequeaths, corporate sponsors, grants and other new sources of support.
3. Foster a motivated base of supporters and donors and maximise the potential for gift aid.
4. Assist the Station Fundraising Managers as necessary.
5. Develop and implement SARA’s brand definition and guidelines.
6. Be responsible for SARA’s corporate communications strategy and SARA website(s) to maximise awareness of the charity.
