The post of Fundraiser (Community & Events) is an important link between the hospital charity and the local community. The post holder will be responsible for managing volunteer community fundraisers and charity-led events and being an active member of the charity team in securing financial support from these areas of fundraising.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that fundraising ideas and events are in place that will have high profile and will generate funds to agreed targets. The post holder must be inventive and highly organised in order to initiate and then deliver highly successful events. Working closely with groups and individuals, the ideal candidate will have an outgoing personality, keen for direct contact with people, good at motivating and self-confident.

Main duties of the job

  1. Work to design, deliver and evaluate a community fundraising programme raising gifts that range from a minimum of £250 - £5k.
  2. Be the key liaison and account manage community fundraisers.
  3. Be the first point of contact for all community fundraising enquiries.
  4. Cultivate & develop relationships with local organisations, companies, community-based groups, including faith groups and schools.
  5. Organise and attend cheque presentations and photo opportunities with fundraisers and hospital staff both on and off site.
  6. Be responsible for proactively encouraging hospital staff to support the charity through fundraising for their individual wards and departments.
  7. Work to design, deliver and evaluate a community events fundraising programme in partnership with the wider charity team.
  8. Ensure that all events are costed, well-planned, marketed and generate income for the charity.
  9. Recruit and manage volunteers to support with events.

Job responsibilities

  1. Work to design, deliver and evaluate a community fundraising programme raising gifts that range from a minimum of £250 - £5k.
  2. Be the key liaison and account manage community fundraisers, providing them with all the fundraising support they require, including provision of fundraising materials, attending events and providing advice and guidance.
  3. Be the first point of contact for all community fundraising enquiries and manage these empathically and professionally with the understanding that initial queries may involve volunteers sharing sensitive information around the reasons for wanting to fundraise.
  4. Cultivate & develop relationships with local organisations, companies, community-based groups, including faith groups and schools and motivate them through compelling presentations to generate support for the charity.
  5. Organise and attend cheque presentations and photo opportunities with fundraisers and hospital staff both on and off site. This includes giving motivating presentations and talks to both community groups and corporate organisations.
  6. Be responsible for proactively encouraging hospital staff to support the charity through fundraising for their individual wards and departments.
  7. Work to design, deliver and evaluate a community events fundraising programme in partnership with the wider charity team, which maximizes the potential of community groups, associations and clubs.
  8. Ensure that all events are costed, well-planned, marketed and generate income for the charity.
  9. Work with external companies and suppliers with coordinating and organising events where necessary.
  10. Recruit and manage volunteers to support with events.
  11. Ensure that all events comply with the Fundraising Regulators Code of Practice and that all Health and Safety aspects are covered and that appropriate insurance cover is in place if an event has any risk element.
  12. Contribute to annual budgets, targets and plans as agreed with the Head of Fundraising and Communications and contribute to the planning process for Community and Events Fundraising.
  13. Work with the Digital Communications Officer on charities online giving pages to ensure their continued growth by promoting online giving to supporters and utilising the online giving websites to their full capabilities.
  14. Manage the Collection Box Scheme which includes issuing and arranging collection of collection tins and money spinners in the hospital and wider community.
  15. Be responsible for working with and organising the distribution of all gifts in kind to the hospital.
  16. Co-ordinate and manage raffles and secure prizes when needed. Work with the Head of Fundraising and Communications to ensure that all raffles meet strict legal guidelines.
  17. Attend and assist at charity events as directed by the Head of Fundraising and Communications these will include weekend and evening hours. Represent the charity positively and professionally at all times.
  18. Be fully aware of the charity's fundraising activities, appeal plans and other charitable activities.
  19. Understand and adhere to the data protection and freedom of information acts, including the new GDPR regulations.

Person Specification

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of work experience.
  • Knowledge of community fundraising techniques and experience of delivering gifts from a minimum of £250 to £5k.
  • Excellent IT skills: Microsoft Office, Adobe design software or equivalent.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines and effectively manage priorities.
  • Highly developed verbal communication skills to appropriately manage incoming fundraising enquiries.
  • Qualification or equivalent experience in non-profit fundraising and business development; events management or any other relevant subject area.
  • Experience working within an NHS or public sector organisation or equivalent large, complex organisation.
  • Experience of risk management systems, e.g. DATIX or EVOTIX.
  • Willing to work at our Brighton, Worthing, Southlands and Chichester offices or remotely as required.
