Base pay range

The Robertson Trust is looking for a fixed-term Funding Officer (0.6 FTE) to manage our Advancing Racial Justice Fund, which will work with Black and PoC communities to dismantle systemic racism, drive lasting social change, and advance racial justice in Scotland.

We believe that building our know-how and making progress towards equity, diversity, participation, and rights (EDPR) are critical for delivering our mission to prevent and reduce poverty and trauma in Scotland.

Since 2022, we’ve deepened our understanding of power and justice, and embraced a whole-organisation approach to anti-racism, allyship, trauma-informed practice, and advancing meaningful participation of those with lived experience.

Across 2024/25, we’ve made significant progress in co-designing an Advancing Racial Justice (ARJ) Fund, and now, we’re looking for a strategic, passionate individual to manage the delivery of this Fund over the next three years.

We are looking for someone with lived experience; anti-racist knowledge and an understanding and track record of working with Black and PoC community organisations to help us meet our mission of preventing and reducing poverty and trauma in Scotland.

The Role

The role has primary responsibility for managing the ARJ Fund:

  • The ARJ Fund will work with Black and PoC communities to dismantle systemic racism, drive lasting social change, and advance racial justice in Scotland.
  • The ARJ Fund aims to build the capacity and infrastructure of community organisations who have hands-on experience of the problem, to drive community-led movements for systemic change, recognising the impact of intersectionality.
  • The ARJ Fund will fund approximately 10 small Black and PoC community organisations and/or unconstituted groups over 3 years to develop and deliver antiracist systems change projects in Scotland. These will be organisations and groups with an average annual turnover of up to £200,000, that take an antiracist and intersectional approach, provide frontline service delivery to Black and PoC communities, and whose staff, leadership, and Board are made up of at least 50% Black and PoC individuals. A minimum threshold of 50% of the grant funding will go specifically to Black-led community organisations and groups who meet the above criteria.
  • The job holder will also contribute to building an antiracist and allyship approach across TRT.
  • The job holder will be a member of the Funding Team and will contribute to their team objectives in addition to cross-team working through the Equality, Diversity, Participation and Rights Group.

The full job description can be viewed on our website.

The person

We are looking for someone who has a commitment to our mission to prevent and reduce poverty and trauma in Scotland and who will embody the values of The Trust.

You should have lived experience, antiracist knowledge (especially in the funding sector), and an understanding and track record of working with Black and PoC Community organisations at a grassroots level.

Experience of working in a strong Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging environment is essential, alongside excellent inter-personal skills, demonstrating a high degree of adaptability as well as cultural competence, care, consistency, and presence in working with people from diverse backgrounds.

You should also have excellent project and budget management skills in taking primary responsibility for delivery of this fund.

We are an Equal Opportunities employer. We want to encourage applicants with diverse backgrounds to work with us. We believe that greater diversity of experience, skills and ways of thinking will challenge our thinking and practice on poverty and trauma and broaden our collective knowledge and networks. We encourage applications from suitably qualified candidates from all parts of the community, regardless of age, disability, race, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief or socio-economic background. We also encourage applications from those with experience or knowledge of how poverty or trauma impact on people’s lives.

Benefits

  • Salary £24,662 (£41,104 FTE)
  • Annual leave (pro rata based on FTE 35 days), inclusive of public holidays, which can be taken on a flexible basis apart from the Christmas and New Year holiday when the Trust closes.
  • Pension - 10% employer contribution or 14% if employee contribution is 7%
  • Additional employee benefits – an attractive benefits package on offer, which is currently under review.
