Where in Wellcome will I be working?
To deliver Wellcome’s funding in discovery research, we are looking for a Funding Manager (Senior level) to work in our Humanities and Social Sciences team in Research Funding.
What will I be doing?
As a senior member of your team, you’ll identify ideas for the continual improvement of grant-related processes and policies. You’ll act as a subject matter expert for funding processes, schemes, and policies within your team. As required, you’ll deputise for your Senior Manager, lead on projects, and play a key role in the implementation of new schemes and processes.
You will also ensure that grant applications are managed, reviewed and awarded in a timely and efficient way. You’ll be the person our community of researchers will turn to for guidance and advice. You’ll have ownership of your own portfolio of grants from our suite of funding schemes, giving you exposure to innovative proposals from leading academics.

In this role you will:
Work collaboratively with teams across Wellcome to provide guidance and support on best practice in grant assessment, grant management processes and funding policies.
Lead management of Funding Calls and other funding initiatives, acting as Committee Manager where needed and co-ordinating associated activity within teams.
As a Committee Manager, ensure committee meetings run efficiently and are well governed.
Demonstrate excellence in grant management by delivering the processing, due diligence, expert review, feedback and award of grant applications for all areas of Discovery Research activity supported by Wellcome, within established deadlines and according to defined standards and controls.
Manage a portfolio of grants throughout the grant lifecycle, including management of the expert review process.
Provide expert advice, and guidance on grant applications and awards to existing and potential grant holders
Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.

To be successful in this role it is essential that you:
Have experience of delivering research funding processes and working in the research funding sector
Have experience of the academic research environment
Have exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage large workloads and work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the highest standards
Are able to quickly build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Are educated to at least degree level in a relevant science, medical humanities, social science, or public health subject

Minimum Criteria:
Experience of delivering research funding processes and educated to at least degree level in a relevant science, medical humanities, social science, or public health subject.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage large workloads, and work to deadlines.
Experience in funding committee management and some experience in funding call and project management.
Strong verbal & written communicationskills and a demonstration of critical thinking & decision-making skills.
Excellent stakeholder management skills - ability to quickly build the trust of internal and external stakeholders.
