Job Description:

Activities cover:

  • Satellite formation flying, rendezvous, in-orbit servicing (IOS) and active debris removal (ADR)
  • Entry, descent, and landing on planets (Earth, Mars) & natural satellites
  • Launch vehicles
  • Earth observation, up-stream (flight segment) and downstream
  • Interplanetary exploration and navigation
  • Unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs, UGVs)
  • System and mission design

Main Duties:

The following types of responsibilities are envisioned:

  • Overall responsible for the verification of the GNC subsystem (E2E);
  • Responsible for reviewing the technical requirements alongside the top level test/V&V plan;
  • Develop detailed Test Requirement Specification (TRS) for the GNC subsystem tests;
  • Responsible for ensuring the test plan is implemented/followed, tests are appropriately completed and documented;
  • Follow internal process defined by the AOCS/GNC competence center;
  • Closing out the requirements demonstrating the appropriate verification results for each requirement

The activities involved may include:

  • Verification of the GNC subsystem;
  • V&V plan elaboration and review;
  • Ensure test plan is properly executed and documented;
  • Elaborate and improve internal processes;
  • Interface with the overall system team;
  • Technical and team management

Education:

Required: A recognized engineering degree (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic) or a related degree (e.g., Physics, Maths)

Desired: Postgraduate studies (MSc or PhD) with a focus on aeronautical / aerospace engineering.

Professional Experience:

Required: Engineer with at least 3 years of experience in the practical application of the domains relevant to the post (relevant MSc & PhD studies would also be considered). With experience in:

  • One or more avionics verifications campaigns (either leading them or as an IVVQ/Avionics Verification engineer);
  • Flight operations
  • GNC solutions for space applications;

Desired: Engineer with 5 or more years of experience in the practical application of the domains relevant to the post (relevant MSc & PhD studies should also be considered)

The position will be tailored to the level of experience; additional industrial and/or academic experience would be viewed very positively.

Technical Requirements:

Required: The following capabilities are required for the post:

  • A strong background in functional verification
  • Capacity to understand new concepts and apply them to engineering problems
  • Good capacity to define and enforce processes
  • Good capacity to understand the context and tailor in advance the plan

Desired: The following capabilities are desired for the post:

  • Experience in flight operations in ESA/European programmes
  • Experience in avionics verifications campaigns
  • Solid theoretical background in GNC/AOCS
