Functional Skills Tutor

Location: Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire

Role Overview:
As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and support to learners across a range of functional skills subjects, including English, Maths, and ICT. You will create a positive and engaging learning environment, adapting your approach to meet the needs of diverse learners, and ensuring that each student has the opportunity to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess Functional Skills courses in English, Maths, and ICT for learners of varying abilities.
  • Provide tailored support to students, adapting teaching methods to ensure effective learning.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, resources, and assessments that meet the needs of individual learners.
  • Monitor and track learner progress, providing regular feedback and support to ensure progression.
  • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and motivation.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders to promote a holistic approach to learner development.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and assessments.
  • Stay up to date with the latest teaching techniques and changes in the Functional Skills curriculum.

Person Specification:

  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, DTLLS, Cert Ed) is desirable.
  • Experience in teaching Functional Skills in English, Maths, and/or ICT.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • A commitment to providing high-quality education and supporting learners to achieve their potential.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by learners in functional skills education and a passion for helping them overcome those challenges.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • A DBS check will be required for this position.
