Job description

Location: Buckinghamshire
Rate: £20–£30 per hour
Contract: Flexible hours (part-time/full-time/in-person)

Are you a committed and compassionate tutor, skilled at making a real difference to students with SEMH and SEN needs? We are looking for an experienced Functional Skills Tutor to deliver Maths and English to learners across Buckinghamshire.

• Subjects: Functional Skills Maths and English (Entry Level to Level 2)
• Learners: Young people and adults with Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Special Educational Needs (SEN), including those who may present challenging behaviour
• Delivery: In-person, 1:1 or small group sessions

• Assess students’ individual learning needs and starting points
• Plan and deliver tailored sessions to support progress and confidence
• Develop engaging resources and adapt teaching methods
• Foster a supportive, positive, and inclusive learning environment
• Monitor, record, and report on student progress
• Liaise with parents, carers, and other professionals as needed

• Essential:

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or minimum 3 years’ tutoring experience
  • Proven experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and English
  • Experience working with students with SEMH and SEN needs, including those who may be hard to engage
  • Able to assess, plan, and deliver highly personalised sessions
  • Resilient, patient, and adaptable approach

• Desirable:

  • Experience in alternative provision or PRU settings
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and SEND best practices
