AE Talent Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a leading education provider for a Functional Skills English or Maths Tutor to join the team at HMP The Mount, Hertfordshire. You will deliver engaging lessons to adult learners, helping them achieve Level 2 qualifications and improve employment prospects.

The role requires experience delivering Functional Skills and a relevant teaching qualification; DBS and prison security clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Functional Skills English or Maths.
• Level 3 English/Maths qualifications preferred.
• A Level 5 teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS/DiT or equivalent is desirable, or willingness to work towards one.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Functional Skills English or Maths lessons up to Level 2.
• Plan and prepare lessons and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
• Assess learner progress and provide appropriate support and feedback.
• Motivate learners to achieve their goals and qualifications.
• Complete learner reviews, registers and awarding body documentation.
• Work closely with colleagues and prison staff to support progression.
• Maintain high standards of teaching, learning and safeguarding.
• Meet contractual KPIs and quality standards.

Functional Skills Tutor – HMP The Mount

Location: HMP The Mount, Hertfordshire

Salary: £33,000–£35,000 per annum

Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Hours: Monday–Thursday, 8:00am–5:00pm | Friday, 8:00am–12:30pm

AE Talent Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a leading education provider for a Functional Skills English or Maths Tutor to join the team at HMP The Mount.

This is an opportunity to use your teaching skills in a role where your work can make a genuine difference. You’ll be supporting adult learners, many of whom may have had disrupted education, to develop their English or Maths skills, achieve qualifications and improve their future employment opportunities.

The Role

Based within HMP The Mount, you’ll deliver engaging Functional Skills English or Maths lessons to small groups of learners, supporting them to work towards Level 2 qualifications.

You’ll play an important role in helping learners recognise their potential, develop essential skills and prepare for life and employment beyond custody.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging Functional Skills English or Maths lessons up to Level 2.
• Plan and prepare high-quality lessons and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
• Assess learner progress and provide appropriate support and feedback.
• Motivate and encourage learners to achieve their goals and qualifications.
• Complete learner reviews, registers and awarding body documentation.
• Work closely with colleagues and prison staff to support learner progression.

What You’ll Need

• Experience delivering Functional Skills English or Maths.
• Relevant English and Maths qualifications, with Level 3 preferred.
• A Level 5 teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS/DiT or equivalent is desirable, or a willingness to work towards one.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• An understanding of safeguarding and the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
• The ability to obtain DBS and Prison Security Clearance.
