This is an important group-wide role, helping to maintain continuity of learning and ensuring students continue to receive high-quality teaching and support.

Working across different college sites and with a diverse range of learners, you will bring subject expertise, enthusiasm and flexibility to each teaching assignment. You will play a key role in supporting student progress, achievement and confidence, helping learners develop the essential English and maths skills they need for further study, employment and everyday life.

About the role

Reporting to the Group Head of English & Maths, you will deliver engaging and effective Functional Skills teaching at Entry Level to Level 2, in English and/or maths, depending on your specialism and experience.

You will adapt to different teaching environments, learner groups and curriculum requirements, ensuring that high standards of teaching, learning and assessment are maintained wherever you are needed across the Group.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing learners' work and providing timely, constructive feedback to help them improve.
  • Setting SMART targets, monitoring progress and implementing interventions where required.
  • Adapting teaching strategies and resources to meet the needs of different learners and groups.
  • Maintaining accurate records of attendance, progress, assessment and learner achievement.
  • Supporting positive learner behaviour, engagement, retention and success.
  • Using information and learning technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Working collaboratively with curriculum teams, managers and colleagues across the Group to ensure a smooth transition into different teaching assignments.
  • Supporting assessment, examination and quality assurance processes as required.
  • Contributing to an inclusive, safe and supportive learning environment.

As a flexible, group-wide resource, you will be expected to travel between college sites as required and respond positively to changing operational needs.

About you

You will be a confident and committed lecturer with strong subject knowledge in English and/or maths and the ability to engage, motivate and inspire learners with a range of abilities and backgrounds.

You will be adaptable, organised and resilient, with the confidence to join different teams, build positive relationships quickly and deliver effective teaching in a variety of settings. You will be comfortable responding to changing priorities while maintaining high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.

You will also demonstrate:

  • A learner-centred approach and a commitment to improving student outcomes.
  • The ability to plan, deliver and assess Functional Skills provision at Entry Level to Level 2.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively across different teams.
  • Good IT skills and experience of using technology to support learning.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.
  • A flexible approach to working practices and a willingness to travel across Group college sites.
Qualifications and experience

You will have an appropriate qualification in English and/or maths at a level suitable for teaching your specialist subject, alongside Level 2 qualifications in English and maths or equivalent.

Recent subject knowledge, an understanding of current developments affecting Functional Skills, and the ability to deliver teaching that supports learners at Entry Level to Level 2 are essential.
