Job summary

sjb medical is seeking a Functional Assessor in Marylebone, London for full-time hours (9am–5pm, Mon–Fri). You will assess how health conditions affect daily life and work capacity, take medical histories, perform examinations, and compile high-quality reports for the Department for Work and Pensions.

You must be a registered healthcare professional (nurse, paramedic, OT, pharmacist or physiotherapist) with UK post-registration experience and strong clinical decision-making.

Qualifications

• Registered healthcare professional with UK post-registration experience.
• Confident in clinical decision‑making and capable of accurate assessments.
• Experience with clinical software/systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assess how health conditions impact daily living and ability to work.
• Take medical histories and perform examinations.
• Produce high-quality reports for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
• Work within a multi-disciplinary team to support quality and learning.

About the role

As a Functional Assessor, you'll use your clinical expertise to assess how health conditions impact people's daily lives and ability to work. It's a role that blends medical knowledge with meaningful human connection - giving you the chance to support individuals while contributing to a fair and compassionate benefits system.

You'll carry out assessments both face-to-face and via video or phone, taking detailed medical histories and conducting physical examinations. Your findings will help inform accurate, high-quality reports for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). • A registered Nurse, Paramedic, Occupational Therapist, Pharmacist or Physiotherapist with at least 12 months' post-registration UK experience
• Confident in clinical decision‑making, with a strong understanding of functional assessment
• Skilled communicator, able to build trust and ask the right questions
• Digitally capable, with experience using clinical software and systems
• Self‑motivated and organised, with a focus on quality and integrity
• Team‑oriented, ready to support colleagues and contribute to a positive working culture
